Condotta to serve on action-packed committees

Rep. Cary Condotta, R-East Wenatchee, is excited about the new role he will be taking on when the Legislature convenes next month. House Republicans recently announced the committee assignments for their members and Condotta will be the ranking Republican on the House Government Accountability and Oversight Committee.   “My primary focus in Olympia has been jobs and the economy. I was ready to become more involved in some other challenging issues,” Condotta said. “Other than the fiscal committees, most of the action in the upcoming session may take place in this committee. Not only will it handle government accountability and look at fiscal and performance audits of state government programs and agencies, it will also tackle the legislation dealing with the regulation and oversight of liquor, tobacco, gambling and marijuana.”   Condotta will no longer be the ranking member on the House Labor and Workforce Development Committee, but will continue to serve on the committee.   “I still expect to be heavily involved in jobs and economic issues,” said Condotta. “There are things the Legislature can be doing to improve our business climate. I believe we can expand on the reforms made to workers' compensation and unemployment insurance in 2011.”   Condotta's third assignment is the House Finance Committee, which considers all tax and revenue bills.   “With our budget situation, and my economic background, this is a good fit for me. It should be a very interesting assignment. I expect there will be many bills to raise taxes given the projected budget deficit, and I will have a firsthand look at the proposals as they come before us. I also expect we will be taking a look at tax exemptions and the tax structure of Washington state as a whole,” Condotta said.   The 2013 legislative session begins Monday, Jan. 14. The session is scheduled for 105 days.
